Teleworking is growing around the world. Boom in emerging countries

La silent revolution underway in the world – both an industrial and managerial revolution – has also influenced ways of working, and total or partial 'teleworking' continues to attract new followers. An Ipsos-Reuters survey reveals that one in five workers, and paparticularly in emerging countries (Middle East, Latin America and Asia) telework frequently, and one in ten work from home every day (the survey concerns only those who work from home in a connected way, not those who work from home to – for example – iron other people's clothes). Surprisingly, teleworking seems to be more popular, as mentioned, in emerging countries: in countries of ancient industrialization the percentage of those who telework (at least part-time) is lower: in Germany, France, Sweden, Canada, Italy and Hungary it is below 10%.

The interviewees agree in believing that teleworking especially favors female employment and allows better reconciliation of work and family, as well as raising productivity because the worker can choose the most productive moments to do what he has to do. But many complain of the social isolation that this way of working can entail.
