The situation in Brazil continues to worry, on the health front but also on the political, social, and one might say humanitarian front, considering all the negative implications of the unfortunate choices of the president Jair Bolsonaro. The latest news is that, despite the fact that thousands of deaths continue to be recorded every day in Brazil (all while the epidemic is receding in the rest of the world, and today, for example, New York is reopening after almost three months of lockdown), Bolsonaro has decided not to obscure (as the Italian journalist Andrea Torrente explains in the video, specifying the superficial reading of part of the press) the data on the contagion from Covid-19, but to no longer provide overall data but only those of the last 24 hours, and moreover not casually moving the publication from late afternoon to 22pm, so that the 20 o'clock news cannot pick them up.
The choice is in the wake of the Brazilian president's denial strategy, even more aggressive than that of his North American colleague Donald Trump: in recent days, along the lines of the tycoon, Bolsonaro has accused the WHO of an "ideological" approach, threatening him too to leave the 'United Nations Organization. All while Brazil it is now the second country most affected by the epidemic after the United States, with almost 36.000 deaths and almost 700.000 cases (updated on the evening of June 7). This attitude and these numbers are making Latin America, according to WHO claims, the new world hotbed: by now there are almost 64.000 deaths in that continent (more than half in Brazil, with Peru in second place with 5.300 deaths according to the official data provided) and 1,2 million infections.
The situation in Brazil is therefore getting out of hand and not only from a health point of view. From a political point of view, the stability of the government is at an all-time low, given that two health ministers have resigned in recent weeks and the position is still taken on an interim basis by army general Eduardo Pazuello. Social and economic tensions also worsen: over 100 million Brazilians have applied for the promised help by Bolsonaro, but there is no shortage of protests and demonstrations against the management of the emergency in recent days. In short, Bolsonaro's popularity is at a minimum, and to all the issues mentioned is added that of the Amazon, which affects the entire planet. This government has made a clear shift in favor of deforestation and the interests of large agricultural companies. Going on like this, an area as large as that of Campania will be deforested this year alone.
read first the second published then the first
I don't know if the president's behavior is right or not, but it should certainly be discussed on the basis
to the true reality of the facts that happen.
Then the mention and the criticism of the deforestation of the Amazonia are surprising if one considers the duration of the
video 1,13 minutes in all, clear that everyone prefers a clean green planet full of forests but
this topic should be debated among experts from all areas, not to mention that it is a problem
that has been dragging on for decades, a poor country that wants to exploit its riches from one side to the other
the industrialized world that wants to conserve forests because it has polluted too much, I don't know where it is
reason, on the side of China which continues to grow and pollute at a very high rate and on the side of
Brazil that has been floundering for several years and sees no progress in GDP?
Surely the reason does not lie in the simple criticism of the exploitation of the Amazon and businesses
farms, which produce foodstuffs for export, helping to increase the surplus
trade without which Brazil would not stand.
Quite strange this article given the good reputation of this publication, not to mention the video
by Andrea Torrente, from Curitiba, who will also be a good journalist but in this video it seems not
distinguish day from night.
I have been living in Brazil since 2003, I say I live because I spend 11 months a year but I am Italian with residence
in Italy and since I have nothing to do and I'm curious, I observe this country under various health aspects,
education, rights, racism etc.etc.
The video claims that over 100.000 Brazilians have applied for emergency relief
(auxílio emergencial) if you look at government sources and not ¨tvglobe¨ since there is ongoing
a fierce war with the president, the data are different, 60.000 requests (I assume that half of the
population requires subsidies) and approximately 30.000 approved.
The data on the infected and deceased are released at 22pm (they say for greater precision) but in reality it is
everything connected to globe TV which does not lose during the evening news, commenting on the number of infections
opportunity to harshly criticize Bolsonaro who replies in this way (broadcast at 22pm) further on
not to grant interviews does not answer the questions of journalists globe.
Regarding the partial and not total count, I don't understand Andrea Torrente's clarification
go to any newspaper, even local, to see the results, cnn brasil, bbc brasil, diario di
pernambuco local site.
I consider it absurd to argue that by disclosing the data at 22pm the real situation is being hidden as
the next morning you can read everything including graphs.
The most important news is always hidden and I don't know why, the reality is very different from how
the Italian newspapers comment on it, in reality the governors of the various states make their choice, which is
contrary to what Bolsonaro says if their polite ideas are opposite (see governor si sao
paolo, a bitter enemy to say the least of the president, in practice they hate each other) or follow the directives of the
government if they are politically close.
But the most important news that is not told is another, Brazil is a very complicated country
and Bolsonaro knows him well, he knows that Brazilians are averse to rules and laws, they don't respect them
nothing and whoever has to check doesn't check unless forced, not to mention that nobody knows
organize and plan efficient insulation properly, I've seen it all (suspension
of trains, all of crowded buses, covered fruit market with operation only 4 hours per seat
of 12 with the result of super crowding and so on) were able to isolate (so to speak)
50% of a city and creating incredible crowds of the other 50%, means contaminating more than
leave everything open.
It is useless to go around it, they are not capable of it, it is not within their reach, hence the reasoning of
Bolsonaro, let's save the economy because the virus does more damage with the Fantozzi measures than it
would leave everything as it is.
