Covid: curfew also in Campania, tight in Piedmont

After Lombardy it's up to Campania and Piedmont. Starting Friday also in Campania the night curfew could be triggered, from 23pm to 5am, while a new squeeze on schools, commerce and nightlife will arrive in Piedmont during the day.

CURFEW AND STOP TRAVELING IN CAMPANIA

The ordinance signed by the president of the Region, Vincenzo De Luca, prohibits travel between provinces from 21 to 30 October. In Campania you can move from your province of residence or habitual domicile only for proven reasons of work, health, family or related to school and training activities. The ban is aimed at "citizens of Campania", who will have to obtain self-certification to move. "It is in any case permitted - reads the ordinance - to return to one's residence or habitual domicile".

As for the curfew, for the moment the situation remains uncertain. The ordinance merely informs that the Crisis Unit of the Campania Region "suggests" to the Region "to request the Minister of Health to share and order the suspension of all activities from 23pm to 5am and travel from midnight, starting next weekend on the entire regional territory”.

“We are preparing to ask for a curfew during the day. The blocking of all activities and mobility from this weekend onwards ”, President De Luca announced on 20 October. “We wanted to leave – he explained – from the last weekend of October, but let's leave now. Activities and mobility are interrupted at 23pm to contain the wave of contagion. At 23pm from Friday, everything also closes in Campania as was also asked in Lombardy”.

The ordinance was announced a few days ago by the president of the Region, but according to the plans it should have arrived in the last week of October, on the eve of Halloween. However, the "exponential" increase in Covid infections has prompted the regional government to bring forward the night closure.

The reopening of elementary schools, previously scheduled for Monday, is in doubt.

THE SITUATION IN LOMBARDY AND CAMPANIA

Lombardy and Campania have been the regions with the highest number of infections in Italy for days. On 21 October there were, respectively, 4.126 (of which over 1800 in Milan) and 1.760 new infections from Covid-19 compared to the previous day. Sharp increase also in Piedmont, with 1.396 infections.

Above all, it is worrying the situation of hospitals. In Lombardy in the next few days the temporary structures of the Milan Fair will reopen and diverge in order to guarantee 201 additional intensive care beds.

In Campania there is a shortage of doctors and there are fewer and fewer beds in hospitalization and in intensive and sub-intensive care. In the past few hours, outpatient operations and non-urgent hospitalizations have been blocked. In Naples, Covid-19 patients are now being moved to other Neapolitan hospitals due to hospital saturation. "The beds are not sold out yet - said De Luca - and the available Covid places are activated on the basis of the needs that arise from time to time, because the staff is limited and to guarantee shifts in the Covid places it is necessary to eliminate non-performing essential, and this is being done".

De Luca made it known that he had asked the Civil Protection sending 600 doctors and 800 nurses. 150 doctors and nurses should arrive shortly, but the shortage of health personnel remains worrying.

NEW STRETCH IN PIEDMONT

The new ordinance signed by President Alberto Cirio establishes the closure of shopping centers on Saturday and Sunday: “with the exception of foodstuffs” and pharmacies.

Establish new measures on schools. From Monday for high school students, alternate teaching will start with some days of face-to-face lessons and others remotely. The new rules should last until November 13 and involve all high school classes, except for the first ones.

Expected measures for discourage the movement. In Turin, the Municipality is preparing restrictions that could affect access to some areas such as Piazza Santa Giulia and the area around Piazza Vittorio in Turin.

LIGURIA

From Monday in the high schools of Liguria, distance learning will return to rotation for 50% of students. Only first year students will be an exception.

The new ordinance also provides that from Wednesday at 12 the total ban on gatherings will be triggered in the entire territory of the Region.

As for the city of Genoa, in four areas of Genoa we are moving towards a "closure" of traffic to the public "from 9 in the evening until 6 in the morning", announced the mayor Marco Bucci.
