Covid: Lombardy in orange with 8 other Regions, 3 in red

The contagion continues to rise, even if the Rt index remains just below 1. Basilicata and Molise reach South Tyrol in lockdown. There are now 9 orange Regions, with the return of Piedmont, Lombardy and Marche and with various "reinforced orange" areas. – De Luca: "From Monday I close all the schools in Campania"

Covid: Lombardy in orange with 8 other Regions, 3 in red

It was in the air given the worsening of the contagion situation in recent days, with the national Rt index touching the fateful threshold of 1 (it is at 0,99), but now it is official and for some regions it has gone even worse than expected : the color map of the Italian Regions "darkens"., with three new Regions in orange (Piedmont, Lombardy and Marche) and even two in red (Molise and Basilicata). In the case of Basilicata, the data examined by the control room were actually from the red zone, while Molise asked on its own initiative to be able to activate the strictest restrictions, as did South Tyrol a few weeks ago, still in the red zone . Instead, Liguria passes from orange to yellow. The bans for the Regions concerned will take effect from Monday 1 March (and no longer from Sunday as was the case with the rules of the previous government). Furthermore, from Monday the Governor of Campania, De Luca, will close all the schools in the region.

So now I am nine Regions at orange risk (Piedmont, Lombardy, Marche, Abruzzo, Emilia-Romagna, Campania, Tuscany, Umbria and the autonomous province of Trento) and three red ones (autonomous province of Bolzano, Basilicata and Molise), even if in some regions there are provinces in the area red or orange reinforced (this occurs in Lombardy, Umbria, Emilia, Tuscany). There are therefore fewer and fewer regions in the yellow zone and even there the data is still worrying, with the exception of those of the Aosta Valley (which, however, makes few swabs) and the Sardinia, which in fact will be the first Italian region to become a de facto white zone, i.e. minimal restrictions with the only obligation to wear masks, even outdoors.

The control room writes that "in the light of the increased circulation of some viral variants with greater transmissibility and the clear trend of increasing incidence throughout the Italian territory, further urgent measures are needed of mitigation on the national territory and punctual mitigation/containment interventions in the most widespread areas to avoid a rapid overload of health services". Also from the group made up of technicians from the ministry, the Higher Institute of Health and the Regions, it is explained that "it is essential that the population avoids all opportunities for contact with people outside their own household that are not strictly necessary and to remain home as much as possible."
