Covid-19: the anti-contagion rules on public transport and at home

The infections from Covid-19 are increasing every day. The ever-increasing numbers forced the Government to introduce with a dpcm new restrictions, including that relating to the maximum limit of 6 people for dinners and family reunions at home. But in addition to the rules dictated "from above", it is good that each of us takes the necessary precautions to avoid getting infected and slow down the spread of the virus.

Rules that become fundamental especially for those who meet other people during the day and find themselves facing situations in which social distancing is not always easy to respect.

The risk of contagion remains high especially on public transport, despite the expected capacity limits (80%). The Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza also admits it: “Urban public transport is a real issue. My opinion is that we must try to work above all on two areas: promoting smartworking and encouraging differentiation of access in public offices and schools".

While the Government therefore tries to find useful solutions to promote distancing, each of us in our small way can take some precautions. We have collected the advice of experts in this article.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: THE ANTI-CONTAGION RULES

The main recommendation to follow is to avoid walking around and not using public transport if you have symptoms of respiratory infections. The risk of infecting others in crowded places is always very high. What to do to protect yourself? There are two fundamental rules, which we know well by now: always wear the mask correctly, covering your nose and mouth, and sanitize your hands well and frequently, avoiding touching your face.

Experts advise, where possible, to prefer electronic tickets, to be purchased online or through apps, to paper ones that may have been touched by other people. Then you must always respect the signs present at the stops or inside the stations and enter/exit the vehicles from the doors indicated. Never sit in unauthorized seats, avoid getting close to other passengers or staff. Is the subway full despite the limits set? Better to wait for the next convoy than to risk our health.

HOME: THE RULES TO BE RESPECTED

After taking public transportation, we finally arrived home. What to do? It is good to take off your shoes and leave them outside the door or on the balcony. If we decide to wear something more comfortable, let's avoid placing the freshly removed clothes on beds, sofas or chairs. If your clothes haven't been used in high-risk environments, you don't need to wash everything right away.

Guests chapter: the new decree recommends not to host more than six people at home, but even within the permitted limits, in the presence of guests it is good never to let your guard down. And therefore: keeping a safe distance, wearing a mask if you don't eat, airing the rooms are three important precautions to follow. In the bathroom, it is advisable to leave a towel dedicated to guests and put it to wash when they have gone away. It is recommended to disinfect surfaces and bathroom fixtures after their use by visitors.
