"If all 32 billion were used to reduce taxes on labour, it would bring taxation to the average level in the euro area". This was stated by the extraordinary commissioner for the review of public spending, Carlo Cottarelli, during an informal hearing before the Budget Committee of the Chamber. “We will create a consultation group with the social partners that will meet monthly”, because consultation with the social partners is very important.
The commissioner for the spending review also hoped for the "contribution of public opinion" in the context of a "greater transparency activity". The goal of the spending review, Cottarelli underlined, "is 32 billion by 2016, but significant savings are expected for 2014 and 2015".
