Constructions down: -9,9% in February

Sharp slowdown in the construction sector: both on a trend and cyclical basis, fewer and fewer homes are being built: -9,9% in Italy – The construction crisis affects the Eurozone (-7,1%) and the entire EU (- 3,7%) – Germany and Slovenia are doing poorly, while the United Kingdom and Romania are growing.

Constructions down: -9,9% in February

The construction sector fails to recover from the crisis: production in February it recorded a drop of 9,9% compared to the previous month, and by 23% when adjusting for calendar effects. Average of first two months production fell by 17,1% compared to the same period of 2011, while in the December-February quarter the index fell by 6,3% on the previous quarter.

As of February 2012 the raw index scored a drop, compared to the same month of 2011, of 20,3%.

The crisis in the sector has not affected, however only Italy. Indeed in the Eurozone, according to Eurostat data, construction decline would be 7,1% month on month and 12,9% year over year, while in the EU as a whole the decrease recorded is 3,7%. The heaviest declines were those of Germany (-17,1%) and Slovenia (-10,3%), followed by Italy, while the only two countries to mark a progression were the United Kingdom (5,7% ) and Romania (1,7%).
