The construction sector fails to recover from the crisis: production in February it recorded a drop of 9,9% compared to the previous month, and by 23% if we consider the corrections for calendar effects. On average, In the first two months, production fell by 17,1% compared to the same period in 2011, while in the December-February quarter the index fell by 6,3% on the previous quarter.
In February 2012 the raw index scored a drop, compared to the same month in 2011, of 20,3%.
The crisis in the sector has not only affected Italy, however. In fact, in the Eurozone, according to Eurostat data, the drop in construction would be 7,1% compared to the previous month and 12,9% on an annual basis, while in the EU as a whole the decline was 3,7%. The sharpest declines were in Germany (-17,1%) and Slovenia (-10,3%), followed by Italy, while the only two countries to record growth were the United Kingdom (5,7%) and Romania (1,7%).
