Building constructions: 2016, the year of missed opportunities

2016 was the year of missed opportunities for the construction sector. This is supported by ANCE, the National Association of Building Builders, through a study published on Thursday 12 January, according to which "some important measures of the stability law for 2016 did not produce the expected results, also due to the sudden of the public works sector.

According to Italian builders, 2016 therefore closed with a disappointing result for investments in construction: +0,3% in real terms, compared to the 1% forecast a year ago. Some positive signs for investments in the private non-residential sector (+0,8%), as well as a slight increase for investments in public works (+0,4%). The sector's production does not take off: -0,2% in the first ten months of last year.

Employment: construction is, in the first nine months of 2016, the only sector with a negative sign (-4,9%). Since 2008, 600 jobs have been lost. The credit taps are still closed: in the first 9 months of 2016, bank financing flows recorded a -4,3% in the residential sector and -14,1% in the non-residential sector. New residential construction continues to decline: investments, also for 2016, in this sector are reduced by 3,4%.

On the other hand, some positive signs come from investments in the private non-residential sector (+0,8%), just as there is a slight increase in investments in public works (+0,4%).
