Construction, Ance: Italian companies showing strong growth abroad: +14,5%

Over 230 new construction sites opened abroad by Italian companies construction in 2015 for a total value of 17,2 billion euros and a turnover accumulated across the border which reaches 12 billion, with an increase of 14,5% compared to the previous year. A very significant datum, especially if compared with the drop that the same companies have seen in the same period in the national market: -24,3%. For our companies, active in 89 countries with construction contracts worth over 87 billion, this is the eleventh consecutive year of growth.

This is what emerges from the Reed Report 2016 on the presence of Italian construction companies abroad, presented on Tuesday at the Farnesina jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, the Director General for the Promotion of the Country System of the Farnesina, Vincenzo De Luca, and the President of the Foreign Committee and Vice President of ANCE, Giandomenico Ghella.

In particular, the strong increase in the presence of Italian construction companies on the markets should be underlined more developed: 7 billion orders acquired in 21 OECD countries which represent around half of the total contracts signed in 2015 (42%). An equally positive result in the G-20 countries, where the value of the jobs acquired in 2015 was 5,6 billion. A result that demonstrates the high level of international competitiveness of Italian companies. In 2015, Italian companies conquered 11 new markets: Germany, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, Norway, the Cape Verde Islands, Niger, Indonesia and Laos.

The results of the ANCE 2016 survey demonstrate how foreign activity for construction companies now represents a stable business, thanks also to the intense work of economic diplomacy, which sees the action of the Farnesina at the center together with the Ministry of Economic Development, to the Ice Agency, Sace, Simest and the banking system, always alongside companies in missions abroad.

Il railway sector, with 24,2% of the entire value of the orders, it is confirmed as the type of work mostly carried out by Italian companies. This is followed by road works, with a share of 22,3%, and hydraulic works with 15%. Building construction, both residential and non-residential, is also on the rise, accounting for over 8% of the work portfolio.

As regards concession contracts, in 2015, Italian companies participated in 22 projects abroad, for a total value of 33,8 billion, of which approximately 4,5 billion directly related to them. The predominant share is that of motorways (55% of existing contracts), followed by hospitals (18%) and electricity generation and distribution (12,4%).
