Costa: maxi order for Fincantieri

Costa Crociere Spa has formalized a new order to Fincantieri Spa for the construction of a new cruise ship. The new ship ordered today, with 132.500 gross tons, 3.700 low berths, 4.928 guests and 1.854 cabins, will be the largest Italian cruise ship and the tenth ship ordered by Costa Cruises from Fincantieri in Italy in the last ten years. The new flagship of the Costa fleet and of the Italian passenger fleet will be built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, with a total shipowner cost of around €150.000 per low bed. Delivery will take place in October 2014. It will be an evolution of the “Concordia class” project, developed by integrating the main features of the latest ships in the Costa fleet to enter service. The agreement was formalized a few days after the technical launch of Costa Fascinosa, (114.500 gross tons and 3.800 total guests), another new ship in the Costa fleet under construction in Marghera, with entry into service scheduled for May 2012. Since 2000 Costa Cruises has ordered a total of 10 new ships from the Italian shipyards of Fincantieri, for a total investment of over 5 billion euros.
