Costa Concordia, compensation to survivors for 14 thousand euros per person

Just call a toll-free number (848505050) or send an e-mail to rimborsiconcordia@costa.it and within 7 days the serious damage suffered during the sinking of the Costa Concordia on 13 January will be compensated. The figure? Fourteen thousand euros per person, including 11 thousand euros in compensation and 3 thousand in reimbursement of the cost of the cruise (transfers included), as well as targeted psychological assistance at the company's expense for those who request it.

The agreement was reached between Costa Crociere and the national consumer associations Acu, Adiconsum, Adoc, Adusbef, Altroconsumo, Assoconsum, Assoutenti, Consumer House, Cittadinanzattiva, Ctcu, Federconsumatori, Consumer League, Consumer Movement, Citizen Defense Movement, National Consumer Union.

The shipping company has specified that “the lump sum agreed as compensation is higher than the compensation limits established by international conventions and by the laws in force". And it will be paid regardless of the passenger's age: a family unit of 2 adults will therefore receive 22 thousand euros, as well as, for example, a group of 4 people including 2 children will also receive 44 thousand euros.

Of course, the deal only affects surviving and uninjured passengers. For those who needed medical treatment immediately after the shipwreck, the seriousness of the damage suffered by the individual will be taken into account. For the victims, however, the figure should be around 400 thousand euros, excluding valuables lost on the ship, which will be paid separately.
