Cost of living for singles 90% higher than the per capita cost of a family of three

Living alone is more expensive and in the last 5 years singles have increased by 5% and are now 8 million and 400 thousand. What a study by Coldiretti reveals about their living conditions

Cost of living for singles 90% higher than the per capita cost of a family of three

Who knows how many singles have celebrated St. Faustino, a day dedicated to bachelors and singles, which occurs exactly one day after St. Valentine's Day, the party par excellence for lovers.
Probably few, because, accounts in hand, actually i single they have very little to celebrate: the more than 8,4 million who live alone must face a cost of living on average more high of the 90% compared to that per capita of a "typical family" of 3 people. To do i calculate the Coldiretti.

Living alone is more expensive

Meanwhile, it must be said that in the last 5 years i single in Italy they are increased of almost the 5% exceeding 8,4 million and representing one family out of 3. And living alone is more expensive, remarks Coldiretti, which on the basis of its own research shows that the average spending on food and beverages for a single it is 298 euros per month, the 58% higher than the average of each member of a "typical" family of 3 people, which is instead 189 euros, i.e. more than one hundred euros lower.
For Coldiretti, the reasons for the greater incidence of shopping at the table are to be found in the need for singles to often buy larger quantities of food due to the lack of suitable formats, which in any case, even when they are available, are more expensive than the traditional ones. It is no news, in fact, that generally, the "family formats" have a lower cost than single portions.

The cost of home and transport is added to the expense

To the count Coldiretti adds the property and transport. As for the first, the apartments and smaller lodgings have higher prices per square metre both for purchase and for rent. And also for heating, those who live alone spend proportionally more than the average family. In short, for singles thecost increase is more than double (156%) for dwelling compared to the average per person of a family of three.
Finally, the transport. Obviously the single cannot divide the expense for the use of the car, as instead the members of a “typical” family can do. In conclusion, at the end of the day singles have very little to celebrate, regardless of San Faustino, since they have to face a cost of living that penalizes them by 90% more than the others.
