The referendum on the drills will take place. This was decided by the Constitutional Court, which today admitted the consultation on the exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons at sea. The battle involves nine Italian regions (Basilicata, Marche, Puglia, Sardinia, Abruzzo, Veneto, Calabria, Liguria, Campania and Molise, as well as the No-Triv committees), which have also asked for an election day with the administrative authorities, one point on which, however, Prime Minister Renzi is strongly against.
At first there were ten promoting Regions, but in recent days Abruzzo has chosen a different strategy and abandoned the referendum campaign.
After the go-ahead for the referendums by the Cassation, last November 27, and after the changes in the Stability law which prohibited drilling within 12 nautical miles, a central question remains standing, namely that of the duration of the exploit deposits where permits have already been issued.
Among these also those on the Tremiti Islands which have sparked an outcry from environmentalists. Meanwhile, the Regions are preparing the battle for the other five rejected referendums. The Council of Veneto unanimously voted to appeal the conflict of attribution to the Constitutional Court. The other nine are preparing.
