The President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC), Raffaele Cantone, explains in an agile and pleasant way in a new book with Professor Carloni, how it is possible to prevent and fight a phenomenon that is unfortunately still very widespread such as corruption and how important it is in this battle the role of the school

But there was really a need for another book on corruption The answer to this legitimate question is provided in the preface to his signature of this interesting book Raffaele Cantone, President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC), explaining the reasons that led him to this editorial effort on a theme, that of corruption, which continues (unfortunately) to be very topical in our country.

Firstly, there is the reason to tackle this issue in an original way, also highlighting the aspects of corruption prevention and what has been done by ANAC in this vein and what can be done in the near future.

Furthermore, the second motivation appears no less important, namely to give the discussion a systematic value in this by paying homage to the all-round vision brought by the co-author Enrico Carloni, Professor of Administrative Law. A motivation aimed at establishing an interview with those who feel a feeling of hostility towards the ANAC and its work, even if not always clearly explained.

La reading of the ten lessons, which divides the path identified and analyzed by the authors, confirms that the objective they set for themselves in terms of greater knowledge of the topic and increased sensitivity towards the corruption phenomenon has been achieved. Furthermore, an agile, never pompous and relatively non-slang style helps (and not a little) in reading the pages which allows the reader to approach without awe, both to broader themes of a qualitative, quantitative and legal framework of the phenomenon corruption, and to other more specific ones, including the legal institution of whistleblowing recently introduced in Italy and the illustration of the structure and functioning of ANAC itself in a national and international context.

Ultimately, an intellectual journey that is well articulated and that projects the reader into public administrations, touching on the issues of legality, trust in the institutions, their quality with the stated aim of helping to raise aware and responsible citizens , each in their respective professional role "active protagonist of that great game that is democracy".

It is no coincidence that the concluding words of this book refer to a teaching by Antonino Caponnetto, Head of the Palermo pool of Falcone and Borsellino, who stated that the mafia fears the school more than justice and that education removes the grass from under the feet of mafia culture.

A concept that can be equally well spent in the context of the analysis of the corruption phenomenon and which allows us to glimpse in the intention of the authors a light of hope to get out of the tunnel of corruptive obscurantism and begin to breathe deeply the healthy air of legality, an essential condition for a solid and lasting socio-economic development of the country.
