Korea, Trump alerts nuclear bombers

The US Air Force is about to issue an alert for its B52 nuclear bombers so that they are ready to act, if necessary, even in 24 hours. This following the growing tensions between the Trump administration and the North Korean regime: some US media are reporting it, citing Pentagon sources. It is the first time this has happened since the Cold Wara, i.e. since 1991.

Defense officials later denied to Fox News that the bombers were readied for action within 24 hours, but General David Goldfein told Defense One that this could even happen: “This is one more step to ensure that we are ready,” Goldfein said. “More than planning a specific event, it's about being ready for the global situation we're in.”

Goldfein noted that in a world where "we have people speaking openly about the use of nuclear weapons, it's important to stay alert and think of new ways to be prepared."
