Italian Cup: Rome wins, Lazio in the final

Rome wins, but loses. The 3-2 with which the Giallorossi win the second leg of the Coppa Italia is not enough to go through: thanks to the 2-0 success in the first leg, it is Lazio who go to the final.

Moreover, the qualification of the biancocelesti was never in question throughout the whole match. In the first fraction it was Inzaghi's team who took the lead with a tap in by Milinkovic Savic after a shot by Immobile saved by Alisson.

Before the break, the Giallorossi equalized through El Shaarawy, but at the start of the second half Lazio took the lead again with a winning counter-attack signed by the forward from Torre Annunziata.

At that point, Roma would have had to score four goals to go through. From then on, however, he managed to score only two, the last of which in the 90th minute. Both final goals bear the signature of Salah, quick to take advantage of the relaxation of the opponents, now certain of qualification.

Lazio also ended the match with an unprecedented formation in midfield and in defense: in addition to the disqualification of Parolo, Inzaghi was also forced to replace De Vrij and Biglia due to physical problems (on the pitch Hoedt and Murgia).

At this point it remains to be understood what Luciano Spalletti will do, who had announced his intention to leave the Roma bench in case this season too ends with zero trophies.

"It's a defeat that we regret we can't change the past and now we have to be careful for the future - Spalletti explained to Rai - Roma did quite well in general, of course when you come from a 2-0 first leg you have to be careful of what passes and we have passed something too much. We have to take note of the verdict on the pitch, we win a lot and then we miss important appointments”.

Inzaghi, on the other hand, celebrates his 41st birthday in the best possible way: “My boys have all been fantastic, I thank them. Tomorrow thanks to them I will spend the best birthday of my life. Immobile was extraordinary, he didn't train yesterday, but he's a gladiator and he grit his teeth. De Vrij had asked me to change, I didn't want to replace him and we conceded Roma's first goal. I was a little sorry for this, tomorrow we will evaluate the Dutchman. However it was the qualification of all, of a large group. Over the course of 180 minutes, the final was deserved, and to say that we had already eliminated Inter in the quarter-finals… Let's enjoy this other feat and then let's get ready for the final, once again in front of our fans”.

The second semi-final will decide the other finalist, the one that will be staged tonight at the San Paolo between Naples and Juve. It starts again from the 3-1 of the first leg for the bianconeri.
