Cop26, agreement in Glasgow but China and India hold back on coal

In extremis, the 197 countries participating in the Cop26 in Glasgow found an agreement on the fight against climate change but China e India they asked and obtained to "reduce" rather than abandon the carbon for energy production. It's a compromise with many limitations, but it's still better than nothing. "It is an important step but it is not enough: our fragile planet is hanging by a thread" commented the UN secretary, Guterres.

“Not a watered-down compromise – declared in turn the Minister for Ecological Transition, Roberto Cingolani – , we had to bring the whole world on board, more than 195 countries, with an agreement that had to keep the bar at 1,5 degrees of global warming and not at 2. I'm not very satisfied, but the compromise is part of the job". As for coal, "India and China - added Cingolani - have placed a coat (on its abandonment), they have asked for a lightening of a condition which, I can guarantee is quite marginal".

Both the British premier, Boris Johnson, that the European Commission appreciates the agreement on 1,5 degrees warming but recognizes that "a great job remains to be done".

Obviously the Swedish activist is not happy Greta Thumberg: “COP26 ended with the usual Bla, bla, bla, but we will never give up”
