Strama's agony ends against Udinese: does he go or stay?

Inter face Udinese still hunting for a place in Europe, on the last day of a disastrous season – Thousands of doubts and Walter Mazzarri's long shadow about Stramaccioni's future.

Strama's agony ends against Udinese: does he go or stay?

The hurricane arrives in the late morning, directly from the capital. According to the Roman broadcaster Radio Radio, Massimo Moratti and Walter Mazzarri have already reached a three-year agreement. Stramaccioni collects, then shows up at the press conference and sends everything back to the sender: “The president and I respond clearly on the subject, I don't want to spoil your amusing little theatre. Mazzarri and Allegri talk after the game, why do I have to talk? For me the president speaks, it's almost a propaganda climate. After the game, only the president will talk about the future. I won't give you anything different. As Moratti has already said, he will decide and announce everything himself”.

The Nerazzurri coach did not lose his temper, not even when he was reminded of Zaccheroni's precedent, confirmed by the good Giacinto Facchetti in May 2004 and exonerated by Moratti a month later thanks to Mancini. “I'm doing the reverse: has it ever happened that a coach confirmed 4 days before is then sacked? If that were the case, I would be first and set a record this season… records.” In short, the mystery thickens. Because if it is true that Stramaccioni has evidently received reassurances from his president (otherwise such security, almost bordering on arrogance, would not be explained), it is equally true that Mazzarri's shadow looms. “Inter or Rome? They say I've already signed with both, if that were the case they'd arrest me” joked the Napoli coach. A joke, not a denial. These days a dangerous fuse, which however does not seem to worry Stramaccioni. “Would I feel teased in case of an exemption? No, really zero – he continued. – It's not my case, and I'm not saying it to make a good impression. To my president I owe, and will only say thank you. If it happens before I expect it, the regret will be that of not having given the desired results because as long as there weren't any injuries we were fighting for it”.

This is always Strama's regret, because in the first part of the season things went quite well. However, it is useless to regret the past, it is better to think about the future, understood as next season. Because the match against Udinese is of little or no interest to the Nerazzurri. “A team arrives that at the moment I think is the most continuous in terms of results – the thought of the coach. – It will be a motivated team, but I believe that Inter, despite what one might think, have trained well and want to say goodbye well in front of their fans. And then we stick to eighth place”. It almost makes you smile to think of an Inter motivated by the hunt for the useless eighth place, but so be it. The Nerazzurri people no longer want to experience years like this, and even Stramaccioni would seem to have had enough. “There are bad years, everyone falls, we have to see how we get back up and we are ready to do it from next season. Now let's do the facts." Which, translated, means acting well on the market. Money is what it is, but ideas must make up for economic shortfalls. “Last summer was conditioned by a sort of immobility, in this one instead 4-5 first level benches will change and something will certainly change. It will be a hot market for all of Europe”. His eyes sparkle as he says it. Almost to exorcise the Mazzarri nightmare.
