Metalworkers contract, avalanche of yes

In the few weeks that have elapsed since the signing of the hypothetical agreement on 26 November to today, the over 6000 meetings in workplaces, which involved delegates and operators of all trade union organisations; all very involved and which have seen broad consent from the workers to the hypothesis of an agreement which was jointly signed by Fiom, Fim and Uilm last month, with more than 80% of the workers who approved the agreement.

Almost 6 thousand companies interested for a total of 678.328 workers, of these 350.749 voted (equal to 63,27% of those present on voting days); of these 276.627 (80,11%) voted YES and 68.695 (19,89%) voted NO. The whites were 3.836 and the null 1.591.

"It was certainly the most difficult contract in the history of the category - comments a note released by Fim Cisl -, renewed in a context of deflation and crisis but also with unemployment that far exceeds the average, especially among young people European. However, we have been able, and the workers have understood this, to find solutions which, in addition to improving the wage and welfare aspects, give space to new rights such as that of subjective training, and open the way, like every other European country, to the participation of workers to the company's strategic decisions. The new contract represents a "pact for the factory" that looks to the future with the prospects that Industry 4.0 opens up".

“The contract – continues the note – was appreciated for the innovative contents of continuous training and the right to study, professional classification, welfare and health protection, work-life balance and participation. Workers showed awareness of the importance of the new wage mechanism to protect against inflation and welcomed the novelty of flexible benefits, which provide strong support to net disposable income. Metalworkers have once again marked history, participation and support have been decisive in relaunching the themes of solidarity and collective bargaining. Now the management and implementation phase of the agreement in the workplace and at a national level will be no less important and demanding”.
