Contract for metalworkers, obstacles on classification and wages

Participation, industrial relations system, professional classification, working hours, smart-working, and protection of migrant workers. These issues were discussed in today's meeting between Federmeccanica and the unions that represent the category of metalworkers: the crux remains the classification and wages (for the second, the meeting is set for next Friday, 11 March).

“It is essential for us – reads a note from the Fim-Cisl – strengthen the theme of participation and new industrial relations at all levels, from corporate to national, by being more daring. If we want to make the leap in quality, we need to overcome the observer season; even at a territorial level, the closure on proximity bargaining on territorial areas is anachronistic". The union led by Marco Bentivogli also reiterated the importance of creating “new spaces where, in addition to sharing problems, solutions are built by reactivating decentralized industrial relations. This modality is also necessary to elaborate proposals to be presented to the institutions of our country, for the relaunch of a new industrial policy, to improve the productivity of the sector and to develop modern active policies on the labor market. In large companies it is necessary to be more daring on corporate governance, in medium-small ones to apply the minimum standard established by the European directives for companies with over 50 employees”.

The proposal on the themes of the new job classification system it is therefore considered an important beginning but not yet sufficient to consider it a real reform of the old classification of categories. "The updating of the various professional profiles is positive - writes the Fim-Cisl -, but it is necessary to intervene at the same time on the architecture of the new system with the definition of the brackets, also preparing the formulation of a proposal necessary to modify and facilitate its application especially in small and medium-sized companies. On working hours, a great contradiction remains in the position of Federmeccanica, on the one hand it opens up positively on guidelines on smart-working and towards a better work-life balance, and on the other it requests the reduction of paid leave (PAR ) and their monetization in a pre-Fordist logic of work and productivity”.
