Metalworkers contract: Thursday 4 hours of strike

The metalworkers' unions Fim, Fiom and Uilm have called a four-hour strike for Thursday 5 November, exactly one year after the presentation of the contractual platform. This was announced by the three organizations in a note, specifying that garrisons and demonstrations throughout Italy are planned for the renewal of the national Federmeccanica-Assistal contract, which expired ten months ago.

"In particular - reads the note - the metalworkers' strike is meant to be a response to the intransigence of Federmeccanica and Assistal, which in recent months have effectively prevented the negotiation for the renewal of the National Collective Labor Agreement, together with the need to focus on the initiative of the trade union the issues of health and safety of male and female workers, the rights and defense of employment and the enhancement and better protection of metalworking".

Fim, Fiom and Uilm list six fundamental issues around which the metalworkers' claims are concentrated:

  • the defense of employment and the relaunch of the engineering industry;
  • the increase in wages, the improvement of welfare, rights and protections;
  • the health and safety of workers;
  • the stabilization of precarious employment and the introduction of the social clause in contract changes;
  • recognition of professional skills;
  • the negotiation of smart-working and the reconciliation of life and work times.

A press conference with the general secretaries of the three trade unions will take place from 10 in Piazza dell'Esquilino in Rome: Roberto Benaglia (Fim), Francesca Re David (Fiom) and Rocco Palombella (Uilm). At the opening of the press conference there will be a connection with the principals of the various squares.
