One billion dollar contract for Saipem in Saudi Arabia and Nigeria

Saipem, a subsidiary of Eni, which also operates in the oil sector, has won two new EPC Onshore E&C contracts in Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.

In Saudi Arabia, the subsidiary En, has won a contract with Saudi Amarco and Sumimoto Chemical, for Naphtha and Aromatic Package (RP 2) of the Raghib II Project. This new plan provides for an expansion of the integrated complex of petrochemical and refining plants in the city of Raghib, located on the north west coast of Saudi Arabia. This large complex will be able to handle, after the expansion, even a further enlargement of 30 million standard cubic feet of ethane per day and 3 million tons of naphtha per year.

And not only this: Saipem will have to build and supply two new treatment units, i.e. a naphtha conversion plant and a complex for the production of aromatic compounds which will have to be completed by the end of 2015.

In Nigeria however, the oil group signed a contract with Shell Petroleum Development Company (also in this case EPC contract) for the Otamara-Saghara-Escravos Pipeline project, which will be developed 65 km north-west of Warri. This new plan calls for the procurement, construction and commissioning of a pipeline network, expected to be 12 to 14 inches wide with a total length of 40 km. This pipeline network will connect the pipelines in the fields of Otumara, Saghara and Escravos in a marshy area and the completion of the works should be completed within 18 months.

However, this latest contract will help Shell more than Saipem: for Shell, in fact, this project will give it the opportunity to comply with the "Environmental Regulations of Nigeria" which should eliminate flare combustion in the country.

Furthermore, Saipem has negotiated with Gorgon LNG for variations for another project in Australia.
