Contracts, Squinzi closes to unions. Government intervention closer. Marchionne reopens in Uaw

Days full of tension between companies and trade unions on contracts are expected. Yesterday the president of Confindustria, George Squinzi, closed the chapter on contracts dryly. “We have realized – he declared in the meeting in Assolombarda with the leaders of about forty confindustria categories – of theinability to carry on any negotiation with the union. We have no room for maneuver in order to continue contract interview in the traditional way. For us, the chapter is closed."

“It seems to me – added the president of Confindustria – that the positions of the trade unions are unrealistic above all on the monetary level and then also for the future of our country. If we are unable to find an agreement to create a more advanced model that is more in line with the times that the global economy requires of us, we need to be really worried”.

A few hours earlier, the president of Confindustria had given the last warning to the unions to "stop with the pre-tactics" and to complete the new rules before the system does it: and in fact this is what is foreseen. In the absence of an agreement between Confindustria and the unions on bargaining and representation it will be the Government to intervene with rules that favor company bargaining over national bargaining and that allow you to value better and more productivity, which is one of the main handicaps of the country. Prime Minister Matteo Renzi had already anticipated it at the Ambrosetti workshop in Cernobbio in early September.

now the unions heralded unrest and strikes against Confindustria but the contractual problem is more open than ever and perhaps it will reach a turning point. Squinzi, right from the beginning of his mandate, thought he could ignore the renewal challenge also launched on the contracts by Sergio Marchionne's Fiat (which in fact left Confindustria) and has always bet on a traditional agreement with the union leaders who, CGIL in the lead, they have always fiercely defended the old centralized national bargaining to the detriment of company bargaining, but the disappointing results are there for all to see and now Squinzi is changing tack.

Ironically, when Squinzi closes, Marchionne reopens. Indeed, the CEO of FCA has resumed contract negotiations in Detroit with the Uaw, the American auto workers union, to renew the contract of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles employees in America after 65% of US plant employees rejected the first agreement and in view of the strikes that will start tonight.
