These four screenprints were created in collaboration with the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat and bear the signature of the administrators of the estate Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Hériveaux. The images themselves are taken from paintings created in 1982-1983 and are imbued with recognizable Basquiat iconography. Basquiat is well known for his synthesized urban, Afro-Caribbean influences and neo-expressionist style which, when combined, created a revolutionary visual language that challenged what had previously been exhibited in fine art spaces. Ascent, Olympic, Leeches and Liberty embody the same essence of the masterpieces he painted in the 80s, which remain among the most timeless and inspiring in the history of art.

After Jean-Michel Basquiat – Ascent, Olympic, Leeches and Freedom, 1982-1983/2017
Estimate: $60.000 – 90.000

Created during and after Warhol's days working in advertising and at Bonwit Teller, New York's upscale department store, this group of 22 works on paper provides a snapshot of the style and subject matter of Warhol's early drawings. Clean, crisp, and confident, these images range from ink on paper, to ink on frosted acetate, and hand-colored lithograph. Some of these drawings were created using the smudged line technique, a method developed by Warhol in which wet ink is drawn onto a non-absorbent paper, such as tracing paper, and transferred to an absorbent paper, creating a full-blown drawing. “spotted” line. He developed this method while a student at Carnegie Mellon University and the results have become synonymous with his work from this era.

Banksy
Banksquiat (Gray), 2019
Estimate: $60,000 – 80,000

Banksy presents a visual homage to Basquiat with his 2019 work Banksquiat (Grey)

Created as a tribute to the royalty of street art, Banksy replaces the carriages of a Ferris wheel with Basquiat's famous crown symbolfurther linking street art in an urban setting to the world of commercial fine art. Banksy chose the color gray for the Ferris wheel, which is also the name of Basquiat's experimental band. Basquiat was very active in the inner-city music scene before becoming a painter, another nod to the intertwining worlds of music, street art and the contemporary art scene of 80s New York City.
