Collectables, contemporary and post-war art on sale at Christie's from 4 to 14 December

First Open, is a Christie's online sale featuring an exceptional selection of contemporary and post-war works of art, open for bidding from 4 to 14 December 2023.

Highlights of the sale include works by a wide range of talents from the post-war era to the present, including Kenneth Noland, Gerhard Richter, Sam Gilliam, Yoshitomo Nara, to name a few. The sale also offers a number of star works highly sought after in the art market that have set record prices during 2023, including Lynne Drexler, Agnes Martin and Richard Estes. With estimates ranging from $400 to $150.000, the First Open Sale offers a broad overview of 1969th and 150.000st century art for both new and experienced collectors. The top lot of the sale is Rushing, a 200.000 painting by Kenneth Noland (estimate: $XNUMX – XNUMX).

Another fantastic highlight of the sale is a 1964 portrait of Ernie Barnes

It is the portrait of the famous football player Matt Snell, running back for the New York Jets and acclaimed athlete of the 60s. Barnes painted the commissioned portrait of Jets owner Sonny Werblin as a gift to commemorate Snell's 1964 American Football League Rookie of the Year title. The following year, in 1965, Werblin acquired another great player for the Jets, quarterback Joe Namath. This December is the first time the work will appear at auction. Additional highlights of the sale include two works by Larry Rivers from the estate of Betty Weisberger, a portrait of him (est. $20.000 – 30.000) and Drug Store II (est. $60.000-80.000). There will also be two lots donated to benefit the Turkish Philanthropic Fund, by artists Angela Lane and Ryan Schneider. The sale also includes a digital artwork by Diana Sinclair, the inaugural artist for the Christies 3.0 launch. The work is a physical cyanotype photograph printed on fabric and framed, with an accompanying digital photograph minted on chain. Artworks from esteemed collections also comprise a large portion of the sale, including LA Cool: Laura Lee Stearns Collection Properties, Norman Lariviere Estate Properties, Orange Blossom Collection and more. Some highlights will be on display at Christie's Rockefeller Center starting December 1 alongside the Luxury and Design Week exhibition; the full sale will be on display December 9-13, 2023.
