Conte: quarantine until Easter Monday, half opening on the Mes

“We are not in a position to loosen the restrictive measures”. The Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, speaking at the press conference at dinner time, made it official as anticipated in the morning by the Minister of Health and that is that the Government has extended until April 13, i.e. until Easter Monday, le current restrictive measures. The bans therefore remain exactly those that were initially foreseen until April 3, with the novelty of the suspension of training also for sports clubs and professional athletes. The draft of the text of the new decree states that not only are "sporting events and competitions of all types and disciplines, in public or private places" suspended, but also "the training sessions of athletes, professional and non-professional, within sports facilities of all kinds".

In the press conference, the premier then specified that "the athletes can obviously still train individually, in private venues". There was also a clarification in the circular from the Ministry of the Interior, which he seemed to have authorized not without controversy parent-child walks. “That's not exactly the case – Conte was keen to clarify -: we only said, in the interpretation phase, that in some cases, given that the children are the only ones who cannot go out, it is allowed to go out with their parents, but always for reasons of necessity such as for example to go shopping. We have not authorized simple walks. We absolutely cannot let our guard down."

“If we relaxed the measures, the efforts would be in vain. I am personally sorry that these measures fall to include Easter, a holiday so dear to us Italians ”, added Conte, also explaining that after these measures there will be other phases, gradual, of a return to normality. “After that we will enter phase 2, which is coexistence with the virus. And then there is phase 3, which will be the emergency exit phase”. Urged by questions via chat from journalists, the prime minister also spoke on the delicate issue of European aid. Partially opening up to a solution that can fall within the scope of the Mes and not, as hitherto demanded by the countries most in difficulty including Italy, through exceptional instruments such as coronabonds.

“I have already said it and I repeat it clearly: the Month as it is set up today it is not adequate to deal with this emergency ”, Conte insisted. "However, if the parameters were to change and should the criteria of conditionality fail, then it could be a viable tool”.
