The Prime Minister has summoned the CEOs of the major public companies to Palazzo Chigi today to push them to invest and hire – Conte wants to know from them how many hires they will make following the Fornero counter-reform and if they are willing to make additional investments

The prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, sent a letter on Tuesday to the managing directors of the main state-owned companies, inviting them to Palazzo Chigi today, Wednesday 10 September, to talk about investments.

The summit, which will start at 16.30, will be attended by Alessandro Profumo (Leonardo), Marco Alverà (Snam), Claudio Descalzi (Eni) and Stefano Cao (Saipem). The executives of will also be present Ansaldo Energia, Enel, Post, Fincantieri, Italgas, EVP Italgas, Railways e openfiber. Representing the government, in addition to Conte, there will also be the two deputy premiers Luigi Di Maio and Matteo Salvini, the undersecretary to the presidency of the Council Giancarlo Giorgetti and the ministers Giovanni Tria (Economy), Barbara Lezzi (South) and Danilo Toninelli (Infrastructure and Transport ).

Conte will say that the government is putting 36 billion euros on the table in investments already planned for 15 years, in addition to those planned for the next three-year period, but above all he will ask the representatives of the investee companies what additional investments may be made by their companies. We will also talk about revision of the procurement code, on which the Premier will ask the CEOs for suggestions.

Finally, Conte will ask the CEOs how many new hires they intend to make in relation to exits that they will come. The Prime Minister's objective is to strengthen the (controversial) thesis according to which the revision of the Fornero law will produce a strong increase in employment as a result of generational turnover.
