Consult, Violante withdraws: "Parliament offended"

The step back comes after Matteo Renzi said he was willing to change the Pd candidate – New strategy: opening up to the grillini.

Consult, Violante withdraws: "Parliament offended"

Luciano Violante is no longer a candidate for the position of constitutional judge. The decision was taken by the person concerned, who announced the step back in an open letter sent to Corriere della Sera.

In the text, the former Speaker of the Chamber explains that "the continuation of indecision" in the election of constitutional judges, with his name (in Pd share) which in two months has never managed to reach the required quorum of votes, "is producing a serious discredit of the institutions accentuated by the manifestation in the classroom, during the last votes, of limited but serious behaviors of mockery of Parliament".

This is "a drift that offends the authority of institutions and the dignity of people", concluded Violante, inviting us to "choose another person deemed more suitable to obtain the necessary consent".

Prime Minister Matteo Renzi himself said he was willing to change the name of the Pd candidate in order to unblock the parliamentary stalemate on the new members of the Consulta. In recent days, the Democratic secretary has changed his strategy, choosing the path of opening up to the 5-star movement.

Just the grillini have vetoed the former vice president of Montecitorio from the beginning, raising the case of missing requirements: according to what was confirmed by the University of Camerino, Violante is a full professor but retired and therefore does not fall within the cases of eligibility for the Constitutional Court.
