Consulta, Monti: "Without the freeze on pensions, there was a default"

PENSIONS, CONSULT - "I respect the sentence of the Constitutional Court, as always, but I am perplexed" comments former premier Mario Monti in an interview with "La Stampa" who recalls how, in the absence of the block on the indexation of average and high, there would have been Italy's default or the arrival of the Troika

Consulta, Monti: "Without the freeze on pensions, there was a default"

“If we had not taken the necessary measures (on the stop indexation of medium and high pensions), Italy's default would have occurred or the Troika would have arrived”. As always, the ex premier's comment is polite, but very clear-cut Mario Monti to the controversial sentence of the Constitutional Court condemning the freeze on the equalization of pensions decided in 2011 by his government.

"I respect the sentence of the Court, as always, but I am perplexed" adds Monti who recalls the journalistic reports according to which "the sentence would have been adopted with six votes in favor and six against and the decisive yes of the president" of the Consulta.

Because the sentence will make many pensioners happy. which could recover from 4.700 to 10 thousand euros, but risks being a real tile on the state coffers, which can cost up to 9 billion euros, "I imagine - observes Monti - that the Government will not limit itself to the financial impact”.

Now it's up to Renzi to decide what to do and it is probable that in the next few days when the text of the sentence is announced, he will appear together with the Minister of Economy Pier Carlo Padoan.
