Giorgio Napolitano's appeal was useless, neither yesterday evening's meeting between Matteo Renzi and Silvio Berlusconi. The House and Senate meeting in joint session are once again missing all the targets: more black smoke for the election of two members of the Constitutional Court and as many "lay" members of the Superior Council of the Judiciary appointed by parliament.
With regard to the Consultation, on the 13th ballot Luciano Violante (PD) and Donato Bruno (Forza Italia) stop at 542 and 527 votes respectively, lacking the quorum of 570. Tenth ballot instead for the csm, with the Berlusconi Pierantonio Zanettin which does not go beyond 470 ballots, still far from the minimum threshold of 512 preferences.
After much futile effort, Parliament has decided to take a break for the (long) weekend. Voting will resume neither today nor tomorrow, but only on Tuesday 23 September, in the hope that the five-day interval will be sufficient to square the names, finally unlocking Parliament's work.
Today, in Rome, Berlusconi he will meet some representatives of the League to work on an agreement. A negotiation of the same type involves the Democratic Party and Sel. Yet the Pd group leader in the Chamber, Roberto Speranza, excludes the possibility of shifting the focus to other names: "We will certainly move forward on Violante and Bruno".
In the morning, Renzi he had said that “the President of the Republic is totally right on the merits and on the method: we must go fast. I believe that Parliament will find a high-level solution today or in the next few days”.
Meanwhile, the Premier must collect the news of a notice of guarantee notified to his father: Tiziano Renzi is being investigated by the Prosecutor of Genoa for fraudulent bankruptcy. The investigation began 6 months ago and concerns the bankruptcy of the newspaper distribution and advertising campaign company "Chil Post", which took place in May 2013. Together with Renzi's father, they are registered in the register of suspects with the same accusation, two other people, i.e. the former directors of the company.
