Connecticut: Georgia O'Keeffe, a comparison for contemporary art

When we talk about large flowers in pastel colors contrasted by stronger ones, desert landscapes, feminine forms and still lifes, our mind takes us back to Georgia O'Keeffe. From February 22nd to June 2nd.

Connecticut: Georgia O'Keeffe, a comparison for contemporary art

American painter (1887-1986) who with her art paved the way for revolutionary ways of interpreting the world through abstraction and the effusive use of color that recognizes her as one of the most important American painters of the twentieth century.

His art has fascinated generations of people, it still inspires artists and poets who from next spring will be able to admire at New Britain Museum of American Art with the exhibition The Beyond: Georgia O'Keeffe and Contemporary Art.

Featuring works from prominent public and private collections across the country, The Beyond will bring together a broad array of iconic works – spanning O'Keeffe's long career and the full range of his output – as the centerpiece of an exploration truly extraordinary.

The paintings and sculptures are arranged by theme: Flowers, Cities and deserts, Still lifes will appear alongside works by twenty other contemporary artists that evoke, question and elaborate the images that mark O'Keeffe's career.

An exhibition where the legacy of O'Keeffe's work represents a touchstone for today's artists, showing the continuous links between our collective history and our present.

It will not be a one-to-one confrontation but a conversational offer creating new ways of seeing and understanding the mother of American modernism.
