Confitarma: the 2023 Budget Law completely lacks attention to the shipping industry

Confitarma (Italian Confederation of Shipowners), trade association of theItalian shipping industry member of Confindustria, does not hide his enormous displeasure at the lack in the current text of the Budget Law 2023 of concrete answers to the demands of the shipowning sector reported on several occasions.

Budget law 2023: Confitarma's requests

La Italian Confederation of Shipowners, in particular, had pointed out some requests, among which:

– To address the increase in the cost of fuel for ship propulsion recorded in 2022, the association had requested a specific refreshment for purchases made during the year, as already envisaged for the other modes of transport. For shipping companies, the cost of fuel has increased by 70%.

- Requested to increase the allocated resources to 100 million euros a year for the incentive for the modal transfer of goods from the road to the sea for the next four years since, at present, the resources currently allocated up to 2026 are insufficient.

- Because of shortage of Italian seafarers, also caused by the important entry barrier to the maritime labor market constituted by the cost of compulsory basic training to work on board, Confitarma had asked, together with the trade unions, a urgent intervention to finance these courses, helping young people eager to pursue a career in the sea.

Confitarma hopes that the Government intervenes urgently to give concrete answers to a strategic sector for the country such as that of maritime transport.
