Giuseppe Pasini, born in 1961, opens the race for the presidency of Confindustria. The iron and steel entrepreneur and president of the industrialists of Brescia takes the field well in advance and is officially a candidate to succeed Vincenzo Boccia at the helm of the confederation. The general council of Aib (Brescia industrial association) has in fact designated him, approving a motion in which he is asked to "verify the conditions for a candidacy for the presidency of Confindustria".
The Brescians' move shuffles the cards and lights the spotlight on possible challengers. For some time, in fact, there has been talk of Carlo Bonomi, president of Assolombarda, as the "predestined" to take over as a strong candidate of the most important of the regional associations of Confindustria, that of Lombardy to be precise. Now, however, it will be necessary to verify who, of the two competitors, will win the race and the annual meeting of Assolombarda set for 3 October could give some indications on this. In particular, it could be Bonomi's report that makes it clear what air he blows around Milan.
However, the challenge was launched and Pasini with his Feralpi, of which he is president, represents one of the main European steel groups with a turnover of 1,3 billion, an export quota of 62% and 1.500 employees. From 2001 to 2012 he led Federacciai and from 2017 the industrialists of Brescia. His profile therefore corresponds to that of a potential president of Confindustria.
It is not certain that other candidates from other regional associations will not emerge and one of the eligible candidates to complete the trio could be the president of Erg and Sole 24 Ore Edoardo Garrone, former vice president of Confindustria with the delegation for trade union relations. Garrone was called to run for the previous election but preferred to decline the invitation. What will he do now?
Instead, Matteo Zoppas, president of the Veneto industrialists, withdrew from the dispute, who resigned from his position on Monday due to "impossible work commitments"
