Confindustria and banks against Fornero's labor reform

"The country needs good reform, and rather than bad reform, it is better to do no reform at all“. The harshest reaction to the reform of the labor market is coming from the world of businesses and banks. The criticisms were entrusted to a statement, signed by Confindustria, Abi, the Alliance of Italian Cooperatives, Ania, which warned a halt to the bill presented yesterday at the press conference by Prime Minister Monti and Minister Fornero.

"The overall structure of the reform is already stiffening – they underline – the job market reducing incoming flexibility and abolishing, albeit gradually, the mobility allowance, an important tool for corporate restructuring. These greater rigidities found a logical balance in the new discipline of outgoing flexibility". Faced with this balance, Confindustria, Abi, Ania, Alleanza delle Cooperative and the other business organizations "had resolved to sign the report, proposed by the Prime Minister , which concluded the comparison between the parties".

But, “the changes that are being proposed in the press today frustrate the difficult balance reached and take the risk of determining, as a whole, a setback rather than an improvement of our labor market and the competitive conditions of businesses, making recruitment more difficult". "Among these changes - the business organizations point out - the different discipline for dismissals of an economic nature and the one that is taking shape overall for fixed-term contracts, especially for those of a seasonal nature, are unacceptable in particular".

Meanwhile also the governor of the ECB, Mario Draghi, intervened on the matter saying that the flexibility and competitiveness of the labor market are "crucial" for the functioning of the economies of the countries that are part of the Euro area.

The parties that support the Government in Parliament have given their assent to the reform, with some distinctions, such as that of Bersani who, while approving its contents, specifies that it is not a reform written with his pen.

Criticisms instead from Italy of values and Left ecology and freedom, who speak of reform that throws the country back 50 years.

Satisfied Cisl and Uil while give CGIL has decided not to express judgments for now on the return to reinstatement for non-existent or unfounded economic dismissals. After the press conference of Prime Minister Mario Monti and Welfare Minister Elsa Fornero, the union led by Susanna Camusso confirms that it wants to "wait to read the text" of the bill before making an assessment. “When there is a written text of the labor reform, we will tell you if there is a step forward – Camusso said – we don't want to find ourselves surprised, as on other occasions”.
