Confindustria: Boccia is the new president

The entrepreneur from Salerno prevailed over his rival Vacchi by just 9 votes – Born in 1964, Squinzi's successor is managing director of Arti Grafiche, a family business that has been operating in the graphic sector for over 50 years – Vacchi: “The minimum a Confindustria with two different positions: but no to divisions”.

Confindustria: Boccia is the new president

Vincenzo Boccia will be the new president of Confindustria. He was designated on the morning of Thursday 31 March by the 198 members of the general council of the industrial association. 192 voted: 100 preferences went to Boccia, while the other candidate, Alberto Vacchi, stopped at 91. Only one blank ballot.

The Council will meet again on April 28 to vote on the team that will support Boccia. On 25 May it will be up to the delegates of the private meeting to vote for the president, who will take office the following day at the public meeting.

Born in 1964, originally from Salerno, Giorgio Squinzi's successor is CEO of Arti Grafiche, his family's company that has been operating in the graphics sector for over 50 years.

The company, founded by Orazio Boccia, Vincenzo's father, now has 160 employees and has a turnover of over 40 million euros a year, one third of which is generated abroad in France, Germany, Denmark and Lebanon.

Boccia's activity in Confindustria dates back to the early nineties with his active participation in the Group of Young Entrepreneurs. In 2000, after having been president of the under 40s of Salerno and regional leader of the Youth of Campania, he was chosen by Edoardo Garrone as National Youth Vice President.

Boccia has also held important roles in Piccola Industria: in 2003 he was elected regional president of Campania and in 2005 national vice president, while in 2009 he assumed the position of national president and, by right, that of vice president of Confindustria.

As president of Piccola, he entered the Commission of reform presided over by Carlo Pesenti who designed the new organizational structure of the system. He was subsequently designated as a member of the Committee for the Implementation of the Pesenti Reform which rewrote the confederal statute.

From 2003 to 2007 it was president of Assafrica and the Mediterranean. Furthermore, since 2010 he has been number one on the Advisory Board for SMEs at Borsa Italiana.

“Nine cards are a minimum difference – commented the defeated rival, Alberto Vacchi -, testimony of one Confindustria which has two different positions. Now what must not exist is a split in Confindustria. My best wishes to Vincenzo”. “The priority – added Vacchi – is to identify a strong team because the challenges that Confindustria will face in the future are not trivial. I had a certain type of program with a certain profile, the associates, who always decide, have made their choice which is not necessarily a negative one. I hope that the choice is fitting for Confindustria and for all of us”.
