Condotte, chairman Astaldi arrested for alleged bribes

Precautionary measures also for five other people - The investigation concerns an alleged bribe for the construction works of three lots of the Syracuse-Gela motorway - The accusations made by the Messina prosecutor are, for various reasons, of disturbed freedom of charms, abuse of office and corruption.

Duccio Astaldi, chairman of the management board of the construction company Condotte spa, was arrested together with five other people, including the chairman of the board of directors of Cosige Scarl, Antonio D'Andrea, and the former head of the technical secretary of the former Sicilian governor Rosario Crocetta, Stefano Polizzotto. This was decided by the Gip of Messina in the context of an investigation into an alleged bribe for the construction works of three lots of the Syracuse-Gela motorway.

Also arrested was an official of the Sicilian Autostrade Consortium, Gaspare Sceusa, the financier Nicola Armonium and Antonino Gazzarra, vice president of the Cas. Astaldi, D'Andrea, Polizzotto and Sceusa are under house arrest. For Harmonium and Gazzarra, on the other hand, prison was triggered.

The accusations formulated by the Messina prosecutor's office are, for various reasons, of disturbed freedom of enchantments, abuse of office and corruption. The investigation, which stems from a report to the prosecutor of the city of the Strait by the Tar, which the companies excluded from the tender for the assignment of the works had resorted to, was coordinated by the Messina prosecutor Maurizio De Lucia.

In addition to the six affected by the precautionary measure, five people are involved in the investigation, including the members of the commission that was supposed to verify the adequacy of the offers for the assignment of the works: Pietro Mandanici, Sebastiano Sudano, Antonino Recupero and Corrado Magro. Maurizio Trainiti, pro-tempore general manager of the Cas, was also investigated.

The Autostrade Consortium, just a week ago, was at the center of another investigation by the Messina prosecutor's office which hypothesized against Sceusa, among others, the crime of environmental disaster for the safety works of the section of the Messina-Catania motorway affected by the Letojanni landslide.
