Bag full of awards for Italian wines at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the prestigious traveling wine competition which this year ended in Rende, in the province of Cosenza.

Su 7300 wines from 40 countries on 6 continentsNTI Italy brought home 15 Gran Oro medals, 109 Gold medals and 230 Silver medals for a total of 354 award-winning wines including 261 reds, 91 whites and 2 rosés.

Italy placed at the second place for number of Grand Gold Medals preceded by Spain and third in total number of awards, after France and Spain.

Among the winners are labels from all over the world, starting from the most established producing countries up to some very pleasant ones surprises, including, among others, China, Peru and even Kazakhstan. More than satisfactory results for Italy, which with a total of 351 medals ranks third after Spain, second with 433 medals, and France, first with 455 medals. Among the Italian regions the most noble are distinguished Sicily with 58 medals, Tuscany with 50, Puglia with 46 and Veneto with 33. Host Calabria collected 31 medals, an extremely positive result that bodes well for a very promising future in winemaking.

The best Italian red wine is an Amarone, the best white is from Canicattì

The Grand Gold Medal is the highest award of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and is awarded to only 1% of the wines entered in the competition. As expected, Italy reiterates its central role in quality wine production. To receive the prestigious award of best Italian red wine, Mai Dire Mai, Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, Veneto. Among the white wines, the best Italian is Fileno CVA Canicattì, Sicily.

All wines were tasted by carefully selected Concours Mondial de Bruxelles commissions, composed of industry experts representing 45 nationalities. The rigorous evaluation process is based on a model devised by the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine) and the International Union of Oenologists. The medal is awarded to less than 30% of the entered wines. A medal that makes the difference: an internal study in the Belgian large-scale retail trade confirmed a 30% increase in sales for wines on shelves with the CMB medal stamp.

In the thick schedule of the Concours, many topics were addressed: the relationship between wine and young people, the beneficial effects of wine, food and wine tourism. Calabria, from this point of view, has proved to be a real protagonist of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2022.

In this context, the excellent performance registered, also in terms of the competition, by various Calabrian wineries, with their quality wines, assignees of prestigious awards, gives further joy and satisfaction".

La next Session Wines RBones and Whites of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles will be held from 12 to 14 May 2023 in Istria, Croatia, where the competition will celebrate its 30th edition.
