The wreck of the Costa Concordia will not go to Turkey or to Piombino, but to Genoa. Costa Cruises would have chosen the consortium San Giorgio, Mariotti e Saipem to proceed with the demolition in Genoa, as reported by two sources close to the dossier to the Reuters agency.
All that is missing is the go-ahead from the government, but it is only a formality given that in recent weeks Palazzo Chigi had said it would give the go-ahead to a project involving the demolition of the cruise ship in Italy and that this morning the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Maurizio Lupi, confirmed that, thanks to the work of the prefect Gabrielli, in collaboration with the shipowner Costa, the ministry of Infrastructure and the ministry of the Environment, "the disposal of the ship will take place in an Italian port". Saipem and Costa declined to comment.
The head of the Civil Protection, Franco Gabrielli, had compared the Italian ports that had applied for the disposal of the Concordia.
