With Trenitalia to discover the Unesco heritage

The Travel Book dedicated to the 33 Italian Unesco sites, from the north to the south of the country, which can be reached by train, was presented today in Rome. The primary purpose is to promote and enhance the Unesco sites, for an increasingly green and comfortable tourism. The appreciation of people traveling in their free time for the services offered by the transport company of the FS Italiane Group is growing more and more.

What is Trenitalia's 'Unesco World Heritage' Travel Book?

It is a true handbook for the traveler, as well as a detailed guide to the 33 UNESCO beauties present from the north to the south of the country to be discovered thanks to the presence of over 5 daily regional transport connections and the over 280 daily services carried out with the Frecce. Of the 54 UNESCO sites present in the national territory, 33 can also be reached with the regional services of Trenitalia. It is an opportunity to make the most of your free time and encourage increasingly sustainable, comfortable and safe tourism, eliminating the stress of road traffic by arriving directly in the heart of the most enchanting places in Italy. The editorial project presented intends to let people know and experience the many wonderful places that can be easily discovered by train, with a maximum walk of 1,5/2 km from the station, enhancing them in a green and convenient way. The travel books collect historical notes, curiosities, attractions, cultures, typical products and particular events of the locations covered, as well as details on the railway route involved in order to know how to reach the chosen destination.

Improvements over the years previous:

2018 saw leisure travel on regional trains grow by 8% compared to the previous year, bringing people on leisure trips to 29% of total travellers. The commercial thrust of the editorial initiative will be given by travel agencies, through initiatives that include more than 6.500 points of sale in Italy and over 18 abroad. Thanks to foreign markets, there has been a constant increase in sales volumes, with almost 8 million foreign tourists visiting our country who traveled with Trenitalia in 2018, up 19% compared to 2017. In 2019 there are already signs of further growth in the number of passengers from abroad, for whom the English version of the travel books will be provided, to bring the beauty and charm of all Italian locations across the border.

Relations between Italy and China:

Serafino Lo Piano (Head of International Sales and Charter of the National and International Passenger Division of Trenitalia) explained that Italy is the first country with more UNESCO sites and China the second. A twinning project is underway to gain mutual understanding of civilizations. Previously the Chinese mainly used the bus for long journeys. But now the Chinese market is expanding: the Chinese population has started moving in groups by train, in fact sales in China have doubled. Trenitalia has obtained the 'Welcome Chinese' certification thanks to the services dedicated to Chinese customers – including information on board the train, brochures in Chinese available at the main high-speed stations, the possibility of booking a typical meal of Chinese cuisine.
