Municipalities, Piero Fassino is the mayor most appreciated by citizens. The Monitorcittà survey

It's Piero Fassino, former secretary of the Democratic Party, Italy's most loved mayor. According to the Monitorcittà-Datamonitor survey, the Northern League mayor of Verona is in second place, followed by that of Florence, the "scrapper" of the Democratic Party, Matteo Renzi.

The new mayor of Turin Piero Fassino therefore rises to the top step of the podium with 68,5 percent; in second place Flavio Tosi with 67,6 percent (-0,5 percent), followed by Matteo Renzi (Pd) with 65,9 percent (down on last year by 1,7 percent).

Just off the podium, Vincent De Luca (Pd), mayor of Salerno, who with a +3,9 percent rises to fourth place with 65,5 percent. Good debut for Luigi De Magistris (Naples, IDV), which conquers fifth place with 65 percent approval.

In this edition they are 48 out of 110 provincial capitals the mayors who enter the 'top 55%', including 7 new entries compared to last semester: Piero Fassino (Turin), Luigi De Magistris (Naples), Giuseppe Casti (Carbonia), Massimo Zedda (Cagliari), Claudio Pedrotti (Pordenone), Roberto Cosolini (Trieste) and Demetrio Arena (Reggio Calabria), all from the last electoral round.

Of the 48 mayors in the standings, 31 are from the centre-left and 17 from the centre-right; from a territorial point of view, the north is in the lead with 19 representatives, while 12 are from the center and 17 from the south.

Eight of the top 10 mayors in the 'top 55 percent' are from the Democratic Party, the other 2 are Tosi (Verona, Ln, second) and Michele Traversa (Catanzaro, Pdl, seventh). Gianni Alemanno, mayor of Rome, occupies 24th place with 58,2 percent, recording the most conspicuous growth in consensus (+4,9 percent) of this edition. Alemanno is paired with Michele Emiliano, mayor of Bari, who however records a drop of 2,2 percent. Tenth, however, the new president of Anci Graziano Delrio (Reggio Emilia) with 61,3 percent.

Another ranking developed by the Monitorcittà (this also relating to the first half of 2011) is that of mayors of metropolitan areas, which still sees the new mayor of Turin Piero Fassino in first place (68,5 percent of consensus), followed by the mayor of Florence Matteo Renzi (65,9 percent, -1,7 percent), followed by Luigi De Magistris (65 percent).
