Airlines, the British Monarch files for bankruptcy

Over 300 canceled flights and 110 people stranded outside British territory: "the largest repatriation ever in times of peace" is necessary

The black period of European airlines continues. After the troubles of Ryanair and the crises of Alitalia and Air Berlin, it is the British low-cost Monarch Airlines that declares bankruptcy. The carrier owns about 35 Airbuses and has canceled more than 300 flights.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the British ENAC, this is "an unprecedented situation, and since there are up to 110 passengers abroad, the UK government has asked the CAA to coordinate return flights home for all Monarch customers, without disbursement by the latter".

We are talking about the "largest repatriation in times of peace" of British citizens, said the British transport minister, Chris Grayling.
