In January, the seasonally adjusted index of retail sales it marked a decline of 0,5% on the month and 3% on the year. On the other hand, on average for the November-January period, the index fell by 0,8% compared to the previous three months. The data was released today by Istat.
In detail, between December and January both the sales of food products (-0,6%) and those of non-food products (-0,4%) decreased. Compared to January 2012, however, there was a drop of 2,3% in sales of food products and 3,3% in those of non-food products.
Sales by distribution form show, in comparison with the month of January 2012, a decrease both for large-scale distribution (-2,3%) and for companies operating on small surfaces (-3,5%).
