Retail sales drop in July. The relative index elaborated by Istat, in fact, records a decrease of 0,9% on an annual basis in the month of July, a synthesis of an increase of 0,2% for food products and a decrease of 1,6% for not food. Compared to the month of June, on the other hand, the seasonally adjusted index recorded a drop of 0,3%: both food and non-food product sales were down.
On average for the May-July 2013 quarter, the index recorded a decrease of 0,2% compared to the previous three months.
Sales by distribution form show, in comparison with the month of July 2012, a decrease both for large-scale distribution (-0,4%) and for companies operating on small surfaces (-1,2%).
In comparison with the first seven months of 2012, sales of food products decreased by 1,6% and those of non-food products by 3,3%, for an overall decrease of 2,6%.
