Trade, Istat: extra-EU surplus of 318 million in September

In September, Italy's trade balance with non-EU countries recorded a surplus of 318 million, a clear improvement compared to the deficit of 633 million recorded in the same month of 2012. Both trade flows show a more marked cyclical increase for exports (+1,2%) and for imports (+0,4%). On an annual basis, however, exports rise by 1%, while imports fall by 5,7%. Istat communicates it, specifying that in the nine months the surplus is 11,4 billion.

For the entire period (January-September 2013) the growth trend in exports is confirmed as positive (+2,1%) and involves all the main groupings of goods, except for energy (-14,5%) and intermediate products ( -2,6%). In the same period, imports recorded a decrease (-10,1%), particularly strong for energy (-19,8%).

In the last quarter, the cyclical decline in exports (-1,8%) was mainly affected by the decline in intermediate products (-4,6%) and capital goods (-1,7%); instead, energy (+5,1%) and consumer durables (+1,4%) grew. In the same period, the cyclical increase in imports (+2,1%) extended to all the main sectors and was higher than the average for capital goods (+10,5%) and durable consumer goods (+4,6%). %).
