Non-EU trade, Istat: Italian deficit drops to 1,552 billion euros in February

In February, on an annual basis, the Italian trade deficit with non-EU countries fell to 1,552 billion euros – The surplus in the trade of non-energy products doubled – In the last quarter, net growth in exports.

According to the latest Istat estimates, Italy's trade deficit with non-EU countries improves. In February the deficit amounted to -1,552 billion euro, a sharp decrease compared to 2,338 billion in the same month last year.

Looking at the numbers more closely, the year-on-year increase in the energy deficit (from -4,4 to -5,6 billion euro) was amply offset by a higher expansion of surplus in non-energy tradeliterally doubled, on an annual basis, from 2,0 to 4,0 billion euros. Also on an annual basis, exports rose by 0,5%, while imports fell by 0,4%.

Taking into consideration the last quarter, we note the growth in exports, both cyclical (+2,2%) and trend (+11,8%), growth, which, in various capacities, involves all the main sectors. Imports, on the other hand, increased by 4,6% compared to the same period of the previous year, with particularly marked growth in the energy sector.
