How to go by car? The anti-coronavirus rules

The Ministry of the Interior explained that the rules change depending on whether you go by car with people living together or not - Clarifications also on motorcycles, scooters and bicycles

How to go by car? The anti-coronavirus rules

According to the latest government anti-coronavirus measures, what are the rules on driving? First of all, we must remember the general rule on travel: only those for work, health or strictly necessary reasons (such as going to the supermarket or pharmacy) are allowed.

CAR: NO LIMITATION WITH COHABITANTS

After that, as far as the practical arrangements of car travel are concerned, the Ministry of the Interior he clarified that there is no limitation by car if you go with family members living together. In fact, it is assumed that with those people the minimum distance of one meter has already been violated within the walls of the house.

CAR: MAXIMUM IN 2 IF NOT COHABITING

The speech changes if you are with other people. In that case it is mandatory to respect the safety distance between passengers. It follows that - unless you have a van or a particularly large SUV - only two people can sit in the car: one in the driver's seat and one in the right rear seat.

MOTORCYCLES, SCOOTER, MOTORCYCLES: IN 2 ONLY WITH COHABITOR

A similar argument also applies to motorcycles, scooters and mopeds. It is allowed to bring a passenger if it is a cohabitant. Otherwise, you have to go alone, given the impossibility of staying one meter away from the passenger.

BICYCLES: THEY ARE ALSO GOOD FOR SPORTS

A more controversial case is that of bicycles. In several cities, cyclists have been fined, but the Viminale has clarified that cycling is permitted not only for permitted journeys (work, health reasons or strictly necessary), but also for physical activity on the road or on cycle paths. The only condition, as always, is that the distance of at least one meter from other people is guaranteed. Therefore, group rides are prohibited.

  1. Regarding the limit of family members in the car.
Write that the ministry has indicated that there are no limits for cohabitants.
Could you tell me where they write it?
    Thank you!
