Coup in Türkiye. The army: "We have seized power"

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim denounces that a group within the army is attempting a coup d'état in Turkey. The Turkish military has closed access to two bridges over the Bosphorus in Istanbul. Gunshots were heard in Ankara, while military helicopters are flying over the Turkish capital. The military raided the headquarters of the Turkish state television. Broadcasts were interrupted and access to social networks was blocked. Istanbul airport blocked. The Turkish army has asked the population to return to their homes.

“We will do everything possible for democracy to prevail. The coup will fail and those responsible will be punished. Those responsible for the coup "will pay the highest price", said Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim after denouncing that the coup was underway. But the army general staff confirms: "We took power to restore democracy and freedom." The military announced to reporters via email that they were taking action to seize power and continued reporting via Twitter. It is the fifth time in the history of Turkey that the army takes the field and carries out a military coup. The military have always been the guarantors of the secular state and its integrity and indivisibility, and are therefore opposed to Kurdish separation.
