Sotheby's is presenting an interesting group of works by three iconic photographers: Terry O'Neill, Norman Parkinson and Douglas Kirkland, in collaboration with archivist Iconic Images. This selection offers collectors vibrant, playful and seminal photographs reminiscent of sun-kissed summer days. Spanning over three decades, these works feature the artists, movie stars and music icons who helped shape popular culture over the past century.

The “Photographs: Capturing the Vintage Summer” online Selling Exhibition by Sotheby's, which began on 5 July and ended on 2 August 2021, placed a reflection on what photography is becoming, parallel to contemporary art, a sector of great interest in collecting not necessarily linked to photography. The sale that took place in "Private sale" demonstrates once again that the "vintage” is riding the trend of the moment - as well as in other sectors - and it is the art photography with shots of celebrities that could also be a good investment.

The artistic development of the music and film industries in the 60s brought artists into the ranks of celebrities. Some of the most recognizable artists such as Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn, Faye Dunaway and Brigitte Bardot they were then captured at the height of their fame in these timeless photographs that have become as iconic as their models.

Considered one of the pioneers of fashion photography, Norman Parkinson revolutionized the classic 50s vision by filming models outside the studio in dynamic and glamorous poses. An early adopter of color photography, he was one of the first to add a splash of color to magazine editorials and traveled the world with his models to find the most exotic scenery for his shots of him.

His innovative and innovative style would inspire the next generation of photographers, including Terry O'Neill and Douglas Kirkland, who would carry on his legacy of vibrant and playful fashion shooting.

Movie sets have always been a wonderful playground for photographers. This space allowed them full creativity while still having access to some of pop culture's most iconic people. Terry O'Neill has established a lasting relationship with the rising stars of Hollywood which would lead to meet, among others, Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn. Prior to Terry O'Neill, Norman Parkinson and Douglas Kirkland also captured iconic films in the making and did adventurous film sets as can be seen in “Art of Travel II” and “Britt Ekland and Peter Sellers as Paparazzo, Rome, 1965′.
