Collectables and rally cars, Bonhams auction ends for 6,3 million pounds

Two of the most famous factory rally cars to take on the Monte Carlo Rally took center stage at the first sale of the season BonhamsUK al Goodwood Members' Meeting on Sunday, that it made £6,3 million with 75% sales rate.

Record: Richard Burns Subaru WRC99 & 1964 Team Trophy Winner Mini Cooper 'S'

A 99 Subaru Impreza WRC1999, driven by the late Richard Burns, future World Rally Champion in the 2000 Monte Carlo Rally, sold for £448.500, while a 1963 Austin/Morris Mini Cooper “S” driven by Flying Finn Rauno Aaltonen fetched £143.750. The Mini secured the team trophy from the 1964 event, alongside its two sister cars famously driven by overall winner Paddy Hopkirk and Timo Mäkinen.

The other highlights of the sale

  • 1931 Le Mans-style Bentley Tourer 8-litre 'quiet 100mph' passenger car sold for £563.500 at top of sale
  • 1972 Porsche 911S 2.4-Litre 'Ölklappe' Coupe, a rare one-year model, which made £209.300
  • A pair of Aston Martin DB6 Mk2 from 1970 exceeded their estimates, with one Vantage Sports Saloon fetching £270.250, while its sister Sports Saloon sold for £185.150.
  • 1923 Project Bugatti Type 23 Brescia Modifiée, doubled its estimate, sold for £113.850.
  • A Land Rover Series IIA 109 ceremonial vehicle4 4×1968, used by Queen Elizabeth II on her 1977 Silver Jubilee Tour, sold for £69.000.

La forthcoming Bonhams Collector Cars auction, the Two Generations Collection, offering a family collection of largely Brass Era automobiles, will take place in Newport, Rhode Island on April 29. On May 13, a new European sale follows in Brussels, The Autorworld Sale.
