Coldplay: Court stops scalpers

Stop secondary ticketing. With an unprecedented decision, the Court of Rome has ruled a first stop to digital touts who resell concert tickets at a higher price.

After the controversies of the last few months, caused by a series of services of the TV show Le Iene, which brought to light a submerged world made up of exchanges and sales, the judges decided to intervene by accepting the emergency appeal filed by SIAE with the support of Federconsumatori.

Going into details, the appeal concerns the now infamous ones Coldplay concerts which will be held in Milan on 3 and 4 July 2017, whose tickets sold out in just a few minutes (however, reappearing shortly after on the secondary market at crazy prices) causing protests and the wrath of fans.

The magistrates forbade Live Nation, the organizer of the event, and Seatwave, Ticketbis and Viagogo, the main secondary ticketing platforms, from reselling tickets previously purchased on the primary market offline or online, i.e. by Live Nation itself, by TicketOne or by Best Union, through systems such as the so-called ticket bots which allow you to circumvent the maximum purchase limit per single user (4 tickets). Violators will be subject to a fine of 2 euros per ticket.

"It is a great result that the Court accepted the reasons presented", explained the general director of SIAE Gaetano Blandini, underlining how the sentence reveals "the illegality of the online touting activity", recognizing "the economic prejudice is for consumers as well as for authors”.

In the meantime, the criminal investigation by the Milan prosecutor's office continues, investigating the links between organizers and secondary platforms.
